If you’ve ever caught yourself staring at a map, daydreaming about open highways and waking up somewhere new, you’re in the right place. I’m Drew Callahan, and for the past several years I’ve been living that dream full-time from inside an RV — no fixed address, no shortage of stories.
It didn’t start out this way. I spent years as a weekend warrior, hitching up the trailer every Friday night and squeezing as much adventure as I could into 48 hours before Monday came calling. Over time, a few weekend trips turned into week-long road trips, which turned into a serious question: what if I just didn’t stop? Eventually, I stopped asking and started driving. Since then, I’ve logged over 80,000 miles across North America in three different rigs — a travel trailer, a Class C motorhome, and a converted cargo van I built out myself. Each one taught me something different about how to travel well.
Why I Started This Site
Somewhere around mile 40,000, I realised most of what I’d learned the hard way was about keeping a rig running: which failures give you warning and which don’t, what a dealership quote actually covers, and which jobs an owner with a socket set can genuinely do at a campsite. I started Rolling Rambles to write that down properly — the diagnosis, the parts, the order you do things in — rather than leave it in a notes app. Not a brochure, not a press-trip highlight reel. Just what has worked on my own rigs and what I’ve watched go wrong on other people’s.
What You’ll Find Here
Most of this site is model-specific repair guides — water pumps, slide-out motors, awning fabric and arms, furnace igniters, roof seals, AC capacitors, leveling jacks — written for a named rig rather than for RVs in general, because that is where the useful detail lives. Around those sit gear reviews of things I have actually run, buying guides, and a handful of longer pieces about what full-time travel is really like. If you are a beginner working out which rig suits you, or a full-timer staring at a part you have never replaced before, both are covered.
My Approach: Honest, Tested, No Fluff
I am not a certified RV technician and I do not run a repair business. Everything here comes from working on my own three rigs, helping people out at campgrounds and rallies, and reading a great many service manuals. Where I have used a part myself, the post says so. Where I have not, the recommendation rests on specification and fitment, and I say that too. If something has a downside, you will find it written down — usually under a heading that says exactly that.
A Little More About Me
These days I’m somewhere in the western half of North America more often than not, though “home base” is a loose concept when your home has wheels. When I’m not driving or writing, you’ll usually find me hiking whatever trail is closest, tinkering with something under a hood, or watching the sun drop behind a mountain range I couldn’t have pointed to on a map a year ago. That sense of discovery — that’s what keeps me rolling. I’m glad you’re here for the ride.
