Most RV owners let their furnace fail completely before they touch it—and by then, the damage has spread to parts they didn’t know were connected. The Jayco North Point’s heating system is built to a price point, which means Jayco has engineered exactly where corners get cut: the igniter and control board are those corners, … Read more

Your Arctic Wolf furnace fired up yesterday, blower engaged, and then went silent—thermostat showing a lockout code you’ve never seen before. So what happened? In nine cases out of ten on this exact model, it’s either the igniter cartridge that’s burned out after a thousand heat cycles, or the control board that’s stopped talking to … Read more

It was late November, parked at a pull-through in the high desert outside Flagstaff, when I first heard the click-click-click that wouldn’t finish. The igniter would spark, the blower would kick on, but the flame never caught. By the third night, my family was running the engine for heat between campfire sessions, and I was … Read more

Keystone Montana furnaces built between 2010 and 2018 use a Suburban or Atwood heating unit with a control board that sits right where vibration and temperature swings can wear it out faster than you’d expect. I’ve seen them fail at elevation, in cold snaps, and sometimes just from sitting unused for a season. The igniter … Read more

RV Slide-Out Motor and Gear Replacement “Drew, my Solitude’s bedroom slide grinds halfway out and then just quits. Dealer wants eight hundred bucks just to look at it. Can I swap the motor myself, or am I going to crack the frame trying?” That’s the message I got from a fellow full-timer in Quartzsite last … Read more

RV Water Heater Thermostat and Heating Element Replacement I’m standing in front of the water heater access panel on a Grand Design Solitude, and the owner just told me they haven’t had hot water for three weeks. Three weeks of cold showers, lukewarm rinses, and a growing sense that something inside this hybrid system has … Read more

RV Awning Fabric and Motor Replacement I paid $1,847 to a dealer once for what turned out to be a three-hour awning fabric and motor replacement on a Grand Design Solitude—labor charges that could have bought the parts twice over and paid for a couple nights’ camping. That bill taught me something hard: when you … Read more

RV Water Heater Thermostat and Heating Element Replacement Most Keystone Montana owners will ignore their water heater until it stops working, and by then they’ve already made the problem worse. Here’s what actually happens: the heating element corrodes silently, or the thermostat drifts so far out of calibration that it either locks the element on … Read more

RV Slide-Out Motor and Gear Replacement Is your Montana’s slide grinding partway out, then locking up? Or worse—stuck halfway extended at a campground with no dealer within 200 miles? I’ve been there, and I’ve watched plenty of owners panic and accept a $2,000+ service bill when the actual fix runs closer to $400 and an … Read more

RV Water Heater Thermostat and Heating Element Replacement I was three weeks into a solo desert run through Arizona when the water heater on my North Point quit cycling properly. Started with that annoying pattern—lukewarm for ten minutes, then scalding, then back to lukewarm again. I kept adjusting the dial thinking I’d just dialed it … Read more
