Listen closely — the pump motor should produce an audible hum or whir and generate pressure within 10-15 seconds, then fall silent as soon as it reaches the target pressure. Open a faucet and observe the flow: you should see solid pressure between 30-50 PSI, and the pump should fire back up automatically as soon as that pressure drops, then shut off once pressure recovers. If your pump runs constantly without ever building pressure, you’ve got a leak hiding somewhere in the plumbing or a failed check valve inside the pump itself. Step 2: Water Pump Removal and Replacement
Once you’ve confirmed the pump is the problem, kill power by flipping the pump switch off and yanking the fuse. Open every faucet in the system to dump any residual pressure that’s trapped in the lines. Now identify which connection is inlet and which is outlet — the inlet (coming from your tank) will be marked with “IN” and an arrow pointing at it, while the outlet (going to your fixtures) will show “OUT”. Step 3: New Pump Installation and Testing
Before you bolt down your new pump, check whether the inlet strainer is already installed on it — if not, add it now because that screen is your only defense against debris clogging the pump. Set the new pump into the exact footprint where the old one sat, making sure the inlet and outlet ports face the right direction so your existing water lines can reach them easily. Tighten the mounting bolts snug but not gorilla-tight, since crushing the rubber isolation feet will defeat their purpose and create vibration noise. Reattach your water lines to their correct ports: for push-fit connectors, insert the line firmly until you feel it seat and click home, then test it by tugging — it should stay put. For barbed fittings, slide the hose all the way onto the barb and secure it with a stainless steel clamp that you tighten until it’s snug but not deforming the hose. Reconnect your electrical wires, matching polarity exactly as you noted in your photo. Now comes the moment of truth: reinstall your fuse, flip the pump switch on, and watch what happens. The pump should build pressure without any leaks weeping from your connections. Open faucets one at a time to purge air from the lines — you’ll get sputtering and spitting until the air clears out, then smooth flow should follow.
Step 4: Cassette Toilet System Overview and Access
Some Revel configurations come equipped with cassette toilets instead of the traditional RV black tank setup. You get a toilet bowl and seat that stay bolted to the bathroom floor, connected to flush water (either from your main fresh water system or a standalone flush tank), and a removable waste cartridge (typically holding 4-6 gallons) that you extract through an exterior access door whenever it needs dumping. Class B builders love cassette systems because they free up interior space, let you dump at any regular toilet instead of hunting dump stations, and eliminate the plumbing complexity of a fixed black tank. The price for that convenience is that you have to stay on top of seal maintenance and vent integrity, otherwise odors will seep into your living space and leaks will find their way into hard-to-reach cavities. To remove the cassette for service work, locate the exterior access door (almost always on the driver’s side of the van), open it, and slide the cassette out by gripping its handle and pressing whatever release mechanism your model uses.
Step 5: Cassette Toilet Seal Maintenance and Replacement
Seal integrity is the backbone of cassette toilet reliability. Two sets of seals do the heavy lifting: a large blade seal that closes off the opening between the toilet bowl and the cassette tank, plus O-ring seals ringing the cassette’s perimeter where it locks into the toilet housing. When those seals fail, odors escape into your van and waste starts leaking into cavities. To service them, slide the cassette completely out of the van through that exterior door and position it on level ground outdoors — this process gets messy. Open the cassette tank and locate the blade seal at the top where waste enters the tank. Look for cracks, tears, or any signs the rubber has gone hard and brittle. Clean that seal thoroughly with warm soapy water, rinse it completely, and dry it down. Then apply a coating of silicone-based lubricant formulated for RV toilet seals — never petroleum-based products, which will break down the rubber. If the seal is already damaged beyond cleaning and lubrication, replace it according to your cassette’s manual: typically you’ll remove a handful of screws around its perimeter, pull the old seal away, clean the mounting surface, and press the new seal home. Also inspect those O-rings around the cassette’s outer edge and give them the same treatment — clean, dry, and silicone lubricant.
Step 6: Water System Sanitization and Winterization
At least once a year (and definitely after any period of storage), run your fresh water system through a sanitization cycle to kill bacteria, break up biofilm, and clear out accumulated gunk. Start by draining your fresh water tank completely via the drain valve mounted underneath the van — crack that valve wide open and let gravity do the work. While the tank is draining, also crack open the drain valve on your hot water heater and remove its pressure relief valve so air can get in and the tank can drain completely. Now do the math: divide your tank capacity by 15 and multiply by 1/4 cup of standard household bleach. So a 21-gallon tank gets roughly 1/3 cup of bleach mixed with a couple gallons of water, poured in through your tank fill opening. Top off the tank with fresh potable water. Fire up the pump and crack open each faucet (hot and cold handles) until you smell bleach coming out, then close them all back up. Let that bleach solution sit in your plumbing for at least 4-6 hours — overnight is even better. Then drain the entire system again, refill with fresh water, and flush every faucet, the shower, and the toilet multiple times until you’ve purged every trace of the chlorine smell. You might need to empty and refill 2-3 times before the bleach scent finally disappears.
