RV Chassis & Drivetrain Hub: Brakes, Tires, Leveling & Cooling

4 min read

Everything under the rig is the category owners defer, because none of it stops a trip until all of it does. Tires age out on a calendar rather than on tread depth, brakes on a heavy trailer go quietly out of adjustment, leveling jacks seize from sitting, and on a diesel pusher the cooling system and air system are the two things that will strand you somewhere with no cell service. The good news is that most of this is inspection rather than repair: ten minutes with a pressure gauge and a torque wrench before a trip catches the overwhelming majority of it. These guides cover brakes and air systems, tires and blowout recovery, wheel bearings and suspension, leveling and stabilizer jacks, engine cooling, and getting unstuck when the ground turns out to be softer than it looked.
